What is Rush?

Rush is a one month period at the beginning of every semester where anyone interested in joining a fraternity can visit and interview each fraternity. Each fraternity’s rush month is different but most if not all offer a variety of rush events that allow people to gain an understanding of what each fraternity stands for.

What can I get out of a fraternity?

Fraternities offer many opportunities to a college student. Opportunities for leadership both within Phi Mu Delta and the Interfraternity Council are numerous. In addition to participating in THON, the largest student run philanthropy in the world, fraternities raise additional funds for their own philanthropies, with our benefactor being St. Jude’s Medical Center. Also, alumni networks help upperclassmen in their search for internships and jobs.

Why Phi Mu Delta?

Phi Mu Delta is an old fraternity that used to be one of the bigger fraternities on campus and is growing again towards those proportions. While many offer a rich history, we also offer the opportunity to make history of your own. Over the past four years, we have increased our numbers from 9 to 35 brothers, and that does not include the Spring of 2010 Pledge Class. Thanks to our lower numbers, younger brothers have more opportunities to get involved and gain positions in our executive board. More importantly, we are a group of college students who want to create something larger than ourselves. We strive to do something that will last beyond the time we spend here at Penn State.

How would pledging effect my grades?

Students (or parents) worried about grades do not need to worry about pledging affecting the grades of a student. While pledging is important, we also realize that academics are important as well and have a room in our house for all brothers to study. In addition, a big brother is assigned to each new member, and he makes sure that the new member is doing well academically.

What sort of time commitment would pledging consist of?

We expect a lot from our new members. We believe a good fraternity man can balance his time between academics, fraternity and other extra-curricular activities. You will be expected to participate in a variety of fraternity events including community service, philanthropy and brothers only events. However, you will be informed of these in advance and will have plenty of time to complete all school work.
